in Cedar Falls - the "Iowa Tourism Community of the Year" according
to the Iowa Tourism Office and Travel Federation of Iowa. Cedar
Falls is a popular destination for visitors for many reasons! Warm,

to go, and lots of experiences to enjoy. Annual events, performing
and visual arts, permanent attractions, and year round outdoor
recreation provide guests to the area with a multitude of leisure

Cedar Falls is a community with a small-town feel whose progressive-minded
residents are actively involved in the arts, education and tourism.
Arts/Festivals
Cedar Falls is an “Art Community.” From live theatre
to public
art, to museums to performing arts and arts festivals,
Cedar Falls has it all. Downtown Main Street displays a variety
of outdoor sculpture which changes on a regular basis. The
Gallagher-Bluedorn Performing Arts Center is considered to be a centerpiece for performing
arts and arts education in northeast Iowa. Hosting over 200 performances
each year, the center will showcase the world's finest artists,
UNI School of Music ensembles, the Waterloo/Cedar
Falls Symphony Orchestra and other regional events. UNI also boasts an impressive
museum that features a variety of natural history exhibits and
boasts a collection of more than 100,000 items.
The renovated Oster Regent
Theatre, built in 1910, provides stage
space for local performers and professional entertainers. The Cedar
Falls Community Theatre group presents a number of plays each season.
Their productions, range from classic humor, musicals, to contemporary
theology.
James
and Meryl Hearst Center for the Arts. Nestled in a woodland
setting in town, the center is home to two galleries, a recital
hall, a reading room, a photo lab, classroom and meeting spaces
and a ceramics lab. The center offers a wide variety of exhibits,
performances and programs for citizens of all ages.
College Hill Arts Festival is an annual juried outdoor arts festival
that attracts attendees state-wide. Ceramics, glass, jewelry, wood,
paintings, baskets, photography, graphics, sculpture and fiber
are some of the items available for purchase at this wonderful
annual event which recently celebrated its 25th year.

Education
Cedar Falls is home to The University
of Northern Iowa which has
an average student enrollment of 14,000. Building on its historic
excellence in teacher education, the University has developed
outstanding programs in business, natural sciences, humanities
and fine arts, and social and behavioral sciences. The UNI
Dome is home to various UNI
athletic events.
Recreation
Recreational opportunities abound in Cedar Falls. You can experience
the best bicycling in Iowa on the Cedar Valley Trails and the
Cedar Falls trails are just steps from the Blackhawk Hotel. This
30-mile bike trail system which connects our two state parks,
George
Wyth Memorial State Park and Black Hawk County Park, takes
you through the cool shade of the riverside forest, through prairie
grasses and flowers and through town.
If you want to venture a little further from town, you can experience
the Cedar Valley Nature
Trail which connects outside Waterloo to
Cedar Rapids. This trail travels through several small communities
where you can stop and experience Iowa small-town life.
